A Box and A Bottle
‘A Box and A Bottle’ is one of my major projects in process. Baking has always been an escape for me just as mowing the lawn. I majored in Sociology and right out of college, I attended the International Bartending Institute in Lafayette and became a registered mixologist. I’m sure this career decision made my parents proud (ha! ha!). Attending bartending school was no joke. Just as in medical or law school, the instructors worked hard to weed out the weak and many students dropped out. I’m proud to say that I was the valedictorian of my class of 1987! Oddly enough, I worked as a mental health technician at a psychiatric hospital during the day and bartended at night.
As a child living on various air force bases overseas where there was no such thing as the internet or cable TV, I would bake. Yes, when I wasn’t outside playing (that’s what kids did back in my day), I’d be experimenting in the kitchen, preparing cakes and cookies by using a box of cake mix and a bottle of booze.
My goal is to have ‘A Box and A Bottle’ completed by the summer. This cookbook will include stories of how my recipes originated and very simple guidelines on how to prepare the most beautiful cakes and cookies – with a touch of spirits!
Look out Betty Crocker and Sara Lee! There’s a new insane sheriff in town who plans to bring fun and laughter into baking!
Cheers!
