King Cake Served Sunny Side Up…

…With A Side Of Nachitoches Meat Pie!

I will always remember the fantastic weekend of March 23 & 24, 2024. Death by King Cake was featured in two outstanding film festivals—one in historic Natchitoches, Louisiana, and the other in Miami, Oklahoma.

I had already made reservations at Oak on the Cane Airbnb, which was my first winning choice. I highly recommend Oak on the Cane if you ever plan to visit Natchitoches, Louisiana. This beautiful townhouse can be found by logging in on airbnb.com.

Actors Kyle, Sylvia Craig, and Danna Barnes attended the Cane River Film Festival with me. Kelly Jackson, the director of this beautiful festival, treated us like royalty. I realize that I must sound like I’m working for Natchitoches Tourism – but I recommend the wonderful city of Natchitoches, Louisiana, for a vacation or weekend getaway. It was such an honor that Death by King Cake won the Grand Prize in the city where Steel Magnolias was made.

On Sunday, still high from the big win in Natchitoches, when I was driving back to Lafayette, I stopped at the Chevron Station on Highway 28 East in Alexandria, to get gas. While at the pump filling up my car, I checked my email. I was excited to see that Death by King Cake had won Best Short Film, Best Comedy, Best Director (Janssen Swent), Best Actor (Kyle Craig),
Best Supporting Actress (Penny LeLeux), and Best of the Fest at the Sunnyside Up Film Festival in Miami, Oklahoma - a festival that took place on the same day as the Cane River Film Festival. Unfortunately, we could not attend two festivals at the same time.

This weekend was March Madness (in a good way) for the entire brilliant Cast and Crew of the DBKC Family!

Cheers,

- David
