Southern Ladies Give Birth to a Winning Plastic Baby
Recently, Death by King Cake won Best Comedy at the Wine, Women, & Film Festival in Temecula, California, which is a considerable accomplishment considering this festival only honors the best of the best women in the film industry.
Yes, this team of six incredible southern belles (four from Louisiana and two from Texas) brought home the gold! In only four months, the dynamic combination of Gabbie Robicheaux, Penny LeLeux, Alaina Nunnally, Sylvia Craig, Abbie Luck Dubois, and Denise Wood has won several awards in the film festival circuit.
Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and most impressive – BEST ENSEMBLE are the honors these talented women have won for their performances in Death by King Cake. I would describe Death by King Cake as Steel Magnolias meets Sordid Lives – and these incredible women made my goal of developing an off-the-wall comedy happen with their Southern charm and comedic timing.
Special recognition goes to my friend and high school classmate, Kelly Hunter, who gave birth to Janssen Swent, the award-winning director of this short comedy. Also, I want to thank Penny LeLeux, aka “Powerhouse Penny.” She is responsible for bringing Travis Myers, an award-winning cinematographer, and Doug Underwood, an award-winning producer, on board to help create Death by King Cake.
I wish to thank all the women in my life (mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends) who have supported me in my desire to create outlets to bring LAUGHTER into our daily hectic lives.
A toast to the Death by King Cake Angels!
Cheers! - David
